If you ask me to describe myself in three words, I would say I’m thoughtful, laid back, yet confident. But throughout my 20’s I’ve struggled both personally and professionally. I thought that I was destined to do one thing with my life and that was to be an Architect. It was my life long dream. As a little boy, I would draw houses and floor plans until there was no more ink or paper left. In 2008, I went off to college majoring in Architecture, and that’s when LIFE REALLY HAPPENED. I struggled with the heavy course load. I had no alternate plan or no real sense of direction. Two years into my college career I no longer found the joy in Architecture.
In 2011, I was a 20-year-old trying to figure life out and where I would fit in. I had no clue what my destiny would hold. I ultimately found another major that I thought sparked my interest and ultimately graduated as a 23-year-old with a Bachelors of Science in Technical Communications. I was happy, or at least I thought I was. Working for a Fortune 100 company had its perks, but after about a year I STILL WASN’T FULFILLED.
For years, my uncle told me about an organization called Toastmasters International. He said it was a great way to work on my leadership and speaking skills. If you look at the most successful people in history, no matter their career field, they don’t shy away from public speaking and possess excellent leadership skills. They can articulate the most complex ideas in a way their audience can understand, and they are a magnet when it comes to getting people to believe in them. With this idea in mind, I went to my first Toastmasters meeting and decided to join in May 2014. From that point, I continually developed as a speaker and leader, and that’s when I found my true calling. As they say, THE REST IS HISTORY!
